In other therapeutic areas, the goal is to treat disease and improve the patient’s quality of life. In the fertility area, we are helping to bring new life into the world. That makes us very special.

Becoming a parent changes your life in so many ways, and Merck Serono helps to make this possible for infertile couples. That’s why my colleagues and I identify so strongly with "Living science, transforming lives."
Children have particular socio-economic significance in Japan. Low birth rates have made this country one of the world’s most rapidly aging societies. More and more Japanese women don’t think about having children until their mid-30s or even early 40s. Fertility rates decrease significantly at that age, so assisted reproductive technologies are often necessary. The government does offer financial support for infertility treatment, but more incentives are needed to make it easier for women to continue their careers after becoming a mother.
Our new generation of self-injection devices allows patients to administer therapy at home instead of going to the clinic every day. This saves time and reduces stress. Thinking about the needs of our patients and simplifying their lives is one of the reasons we are a leader in fertility.
